The ’61 Impala made its Hot Wheels debut in 2012, designed by Mike Nuttall, making this an original first-year release of the casting.
Two primary colors were offered in the 2012 New Models lineup. The first was Metalflake Blue, while V5617 introduced the second-color Metalflake Dark Red version.
The red version features white and black stripes with prominent “409” graphics, referencing Chevrolet’s legendary 409-powered performance era.
Collectors should also inspect the front windshield carefully. A special Walmart-exclusive variation of V5617 was produced with a “Hot Wheels” windshield banner. The standard V5617 does not have this windshield graphic.
If your example has “Hot Wheels” printed across the windshield, it should be identified and marketed separately as the Walmart Exclusive variation.
