Designed by legendary Hot Wheels designer Larry Wood, the Purple Passion is based on a radically customized 1949 Mercury Club Coupe and became one of Hot Wheels' most recognizable custom-car castings.
 
This 1993 release features a beautiful Metallic Purple finish with yellow flames outlined in blue, a beige/tan interior, clear windows, chrome-style plastic base and distinctive whitewall wheels.
A great vintage display piece for collectors of Hot Wheels Blue Cards, Larry Wood designs, custom Mercurys, lead sleds and classic 1990s Hot Wheels.

The Purple Passion casting originally debuted in 1990 and was designed by Larry Wood. Its chopped-roof, low-slung appearance takes inspiration from the heavily customized Mercury “lead sleds” that became icons of American custom-car culture.
An important detail for collectors: #2173 appeared across the early Blue Card era, so the collector number alone doesn't establish the year. The specific 1993 USA Blue Card/Brown Back version is documented with metallic purple paint, blue/yellow flame decoration and Collector #87.
